Young Adult Author Feature: Yvonne Ventresca

I find it a privilege to be a caretaker of the YA section in our library. There are amazing young adult books on the shelves, and I am trying to read as many as I can! One of my favorite parts of librarianship--besides the books--is meeting and interacting with the authors that write them.

Today, I received a card in the mail from one of my favorite YA authors: Yvonne Ventresca. Both of her books, Pandemic and Black Flowers, White Lies are proudly displayed on the YA shelves under "V".  I have read both titles and recommend them to our patrons.

Enclosed in the hand-written card was an award sticker to affix to the book Black Flowers, White Lies, as Yvonne's book won an Independent Publisher Book Award in Young Adult Fiction for 2017. It was an honor to place the award to the book cover.

Congratulations, Yvonne: your award is well-deserved!

Book Review Friday: The Fault in Our Stars

Happy Friday!

The following book review is from Julia C., age 13:

Book Title: Catching Fire
Author: Suzanne Collins
Rating: 5 stars

"I liked this book because I like adventure stories and The Hunger Games series has a lot of adventure in it. If you like adventure, then you might like these books."

Here's another interesting fact about Suzanne Collins--she graduated from Indiana University! Enjoy your weekend. :)

Pokemon of the Week: Skarmony

Hello! It was a beautiful holiday weekend for Pokémon GO. I hope you were able to catch a lot of Pokemon. You may know this already, but there is a Pokemon GO Easter event happening now through April 20. It's called an "Eggstravaganza Event."  Lucky Eggs in the shop are on sale, there are better Pokemon hatched through the 2 km (green) eggs, and double XP.

The Pokemon of the week is Skarmony. It is made of steel, and as you can see here, Skarmony is a flying pokemon.

Have an eggcellent week! (Couldn't resist.) The weather should be great for catching Pokemon.

Dungeons & Dragons Club

Hi!

The D&D club enjoyed a fun gaming session on Saturday, April 1 (No foolin'.)  We've had the club here at MCPL since Fall of 2016, and I am pleased to see that many of the same players are returning month-to-month. It's also fun to observe that the players will refer to each other by their character's names.

We have added pre-painted and unpainted figures to enhance the D&D experience. John Arcadian from gnomestew.com recently donated several boxes of figures and books to our library, and we are collaborating on writing articles about gaming and libraries.

Our next gaming session is on Saturday, May 6 from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. If you are local and would love to play, you are welcome to join us! Please let us know in advance: #574-825-5601 or register online  at http://mdypl.evanced.info/signup/Calendar.
